Red-tailed hawks fight to the death deep in the hills. Elephant seals battle on their home beach in north SLO County, leaving ugly scars. But they live to fight another day. Sea otters are cute and abundant on the Central Coast. A trip to South Africa brought me face to face with these exotic critters at the Zulu Nyala Wildlife preserve (cheetah, rhino), Saint Lucia World Heritage Site (hippos, croc) and Chobe National Park in Botswana (lion, elephant and buffalo).
